Enameloplasty (otherwise known as odontoplasty or tooth reshaping) is a procedure where a tooth is “shaved” to reshape the contours of the tooth. In some ways it is the opposite of bonding, because instead of adding material to the tooth, it subtracts it!

But just the bonding, the goal is to improve the look of the teeth. At times, teeth can benefit from an enameloplasty if they have physical flaws that can be easy shaved away.

At other times, enameloplasty is used in conjunction with restorative procedures, like inlays and onlays. In some cases, it is necessary to subtract a little of the tooth before going forward with the restoration.
