Dentures have been around since 700 BCE. They were originally made of animal teeth, and while they were effective, they don’t sound like something you’d want in your mouth.

These days, dentures are made from a combination of acrylic and metal. They’re more appealing and last a whole lot longer. These “false teeth” are in use by thousands of Canadians.

The dentists and support staff at The Teal Umbrella are proud to serve the entire family. We offer restorative services for people of all ages, and those services include providing our patients with full and partial dentures. Dentures are most often required by elderly people, but they can also be used by younger patients when they are missing teeth. The Teal Umbrella is a great place to get dentures in Ottawa.

Dentures have recently become eclipsed by the availability and effectiveness of dental implants. Dental implants are often a better long-term solution because they are stronger and feel more like real teeth. However, many patients enjoy having the ability to remove their dentures. Furthermore, dentures cost significantly less than dental implants.

Complete Dentures

Full dentures are used when all of the teeth on either the top or the bottom of the patient’s mouth have been removed. They are a complete new set of teeth. There are two types of full dentures: conventional and immediate.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are a removable alternative to a dental bridge. They are recommended when one or several teeth have been lost, but the rest of the patient’s natural teeth are healthy.

Like a bridge, they consist of an artificial tooth or artificial teeth that attach to other teeth, thus forming a complete row of pearly whites. Unlike a bridge, they don’t require crowns to be placed on the teeth on either side. Instead, they attach to the patient’s natural teeth with metal clasps. Because they are attached by clasps, they are removable.

Implant Supported

Both complete and partial dentures can be anchored to a dental implant. This makes them more stable.
