Directions to Our Practice

If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take, using the Nepean Centrepointe branch of the Ottawa Public Library as a starting point: 

1. Take Centrepointe Dr northwest, then turn right onto Baseline Rd. Turn right again onto Merivale Rd. We’re across from the FreshCo grocery store, at 1580 Merivale Rd Ste 200.
2. Take Centrepointe Dr southeast, then turn left onto Tallwood Dr. Turn left again right after Bayne Ave, into the parking lot. We’re in the middle of that row of shops, near Romeo’s Donair & Pizza. 

How Much Local History Do You Know?

Originally known as Township D when it was established in 1792, Nepean Township once encompassed what is now central Ottawa west of the Rideau River. Jehiel Collins, a settler from Vermont, is credited as Nepean’s first resident, settling in what would later become Bytown. Nepean transitioned from a township to a city on November 24, 1978, experiencing significant changes in its geographic boundaries over time. Initially, the township’s town hall was located in Westboro, which was annexed by the city of Ottawa in 1950, shifting Nepean’s center to Bells Corners. During the 1950s and 1960s, Nepean expanded its urban areas into previously rural regions, notably in Centrepointe and Barrhaven.

The need for a community library was recognized by the City of Nepean in 1853, leading to the establishment of one through a bylaw and a tax levy. A major fire in 1870 devastated several schoolhouses, destroying the library’s books, and for eighty years, the library ceased to exist. It was revived in 1951 thanks to the efforts of Ruth E. Dickinson, a recent arrival from Calgary. The Nepean Public Library, originally the City View Public Library, officially opened on March 1, 1957, and was renamed the Nepean Township Public Library in 1962.

Before amalgamating with 10 other municipalities to form the new city of Ottawa in 2001, Nepean had a population of 124,878, which grew to 138,596 by 2006. Named after Sir Evan Nepean, a British official, Nepean also contributed sandstone blocks from its quarries for the construction of Ottawa’s Parliament Buildings. In September 2018, Nepean endured significant damage from a severe storm that generated six tornadoes in the region, notably affecting Arlington Woods, Craig Henry, and Colonnade Road Business Park.
