Eco-Friendly Smiles: Celebrate Earth Month with a Greener Mouth

April is a season of growth, fresh air, and renewal. It’s also the month where we celebrate Earth Day (April 22)!

At The Teal Umbrella, “Teal” isn’t just our color—it reflects our dedication to the environment and to your body. We believe the path to wellness should be clean, non-toxic, and mindful of our planet.

This month, we are focusing on how you can make your daily dental routine more sustainable.

Small Changes, Big Impact

Think about how many plastic toothbrushes and tubes you use in a lifetime. Small swaps can make a massive difference:

  1. Switch to Bamboo: The classic choice. A bamboo toothbrush handle is 100% biodegradable, unlike plastic.
  2. Ditch the Paste Tubes: Traditional toothpaste tubes are often made of non-recyclable plastic and metal. Swap them for innovative tooth tablets or powders.
  3. Opt for Better Floss: Much of traditional dental floss is made of nylon (a plastic) and coated in PFAS (often linked to health concerns). Choose a brand using silk, silk alternatives, or cotton coated in natural plant wax.

Our Commitment to Green Practices

Your sustainable effort doesn’t stop at home. We bring that same mindfulness to our clinic:

  • Non-Toxic Materials: We prioritize the use of safe, biocompatible (non-toxic) materials. We are proud to be a mercury-free office. We do not use silver/amalgam fillings, eliminating the risk of introducing mercury into your body or the environment.
  • Digital Systems: We limit paper waste by utilizing digital records and, when possible, digital radiography to reduce chemical exposure and radiation.
  • Proactive Waste Reduction: We constantly look for ways to decrease our footprint within the clinic.

We invite you to join us this month. Celebrate Earth Day by trying just one “greener” oral care switch!

Your body and the planet will thank you.
